How to share a gift list with friends

What is Giftrilo?

Giftrilo is a gift-list planner for birthdays, housewarmings and other occasions. An organiser adds ideas and shares invitations. Participants choose gifts or see gifts assigned to them. You can start without an account; Google sign-in is optional.

How do I share a gift list with friends?

1. Create a list on the home page using the guided setup or manual settings. Choose a title, currency and how gifts will be assigned.

2. Add gifts with a maximum budget and optional shop link.

3. Open People & sharing. For a list showing all gifts, use Show shared link. For individual invitations, add each person and select Show link. Restricted lists need personal invitations.

4. Copy the invitation or use WhatsApp or your device’s sharing menu. Recipients can open invitations without signing in. Never send your private management link to participants.

How do reservations prevent duplicate gifts?

With self-selection enabled, someone opening a shared invitation enters a name to join and receives a personal link. They choose “I’ll get this” to reserve a gift. The list prevents two people reserving the same individual gift. The organiser can instead assign gifts manually or confirm a proposed balanced split. One-gift or multiple-gift limits are configurable. A reservation is not proof of purchase.

How do I organise a group gift?

Add a gift and enable “Group gift — several people can join”. Share the list and let participants choose “Join group gift” when self-selection is enabled, or assign contributors yourself. Agree outside Giftrilo who buys the item, how much each person contributes and how money is transferred. Giftrilo records participants; it does not collect payments, track contribution amounts or hold a money balance. Mark the whole gift as purchased only after it has been bought.

How do I keep organiser access?

Choose “Save private management link” and keep it somewhere private, or sign in with Google to preserve eligible lists on your account. The private management link works on another device without signing in and gives editing rights to anyone holding it. You can replace or revoke it. Organiser planning tasks include this link and a warning: do not save them in shared task lists. Participant invitations and the ordinary page address do not grant organiser rights.

Can invited friends save the list?

Yes. An invited participant can choose to sign in with Google and save the invitation. It appears under “Lists I participate in”. This preserves participant permissions, not organiser rights. Replacing the invitation invalidates that saved access. Without an account, keep the original invitation link.

Can I add reminders or an event to my calendar?

A shopping task reminds you what to buy; an organiser planning task saves the whole list. Copy a task to your preferred app, or use Google Tasks when the integration is enabled. With an event date set, export an .ics event or open Google Calendar. Tasks and events are one-time copies; later list changes are not synchronised. Set notification times in your chosen app.

What do AI suggestions and Amazon links do?

Optional AI suggestions use interests, an optional age range and your budget. Add a suggested name and an Amazon search link to the list, or open the search yourself. These are ideas, not verified offers or store prices. The maximum budget is your spending limit. Current links are not affiliate links.

Is my list public?

The guide is public, but personal lists are not published as a searchable directory. Invitations grant access according to the list settings; anyone with a valid link can use it. Keep private management links, personal invitations and exported reminders confidential. See the privacy notice for details.

How is Giftrilo funded?

Giftrilo is free to use. You pay for gifts directly at your chosen shop. We plan to use affiliate links: a shop or affiliate network may pay us a commission when you buy through a labelled affiliate link. Giftrilo will not charge you an additional fee for that purchase. Current shop links are not affiliate links. When the programme launches, we will update this explanation and label affiliate links.
